Having moved back from Yorkshire last year and spending many hours in the Dales, I am finding Cheshire too flat!! Can anyone recommend some nice hills to climb up on the bike that are not too far from Grappenhall? Routes up to 50 miles max only though please.

Hi Paul, I know exactly what you mean. I tend to head towards the Peak District if I want some proper hills. A typical route I use utilizes part of the Cheshire Cycle Way. Basically I head towards Knutsford, then Alderley Edge, first climb is up the back of the Wizard. After which I drop down to Prestbury. Then head over towards Adlington, then head up the second climb towards Potts Shrigley. Decend into the village, then take a left by the church up the third climb - the brIckworks. At the top turn right and head towards Macclesfield. Take a left turn near the Highway Man pub and climb river Pimms Chair and Jenkins Chapel, then drop down into the Goyt Valley. Follow the valley road to the top if the cat and fiddle pub, then descend to Macclesfield. Then head back home via Knutsford via Chelford.
Let me know If this isn't challenging enough for you.
Paul.
